Large HVAC Equipment? 4 tips before closing the ceiling
Four practical considerations for contractors working with large HVAC and ERV equipment.

1. Size the access for what may need to come out — and for duct connections.
Plan for the largest component that may need to be removed, while leaving enough working space to connect ventilation ducts to the unit.
2. Check the equipment manufacturer’s service side before locating the panel.
Filters, motors, cores and other service points should determine where the opening is positioned.
3. Calculate the clear opening — not just the nominal panel size.
A large hinged door can still obstruct access once opened. A removable panel leaves the framed opening fully clear.
4. For oversized openings, consider panel weight and handling.
Large panels need to remain rigid, manageable and easy to remove and reinstall during maintenance.
When Full Access Matters
For large HVAC and ERV installations, a conventional hinged door may not provide enough clearance for servicing, component removal or technician access.
A fully removable access panel provides the entire framed opening when needed.
